Communication Skills for Parents

Individual Consultations

Parents these days experience all sorts of pressures and worries brought on by increased expectations of the parenting role. There is so much information around about what parents 'should' be doing to produce happy children, and this can be overwhelming and confusing. Communicating with Kids offers individual consultations with parents who need help in  managing their children's behaviour, helping their children with problems, and building better relationships.  Consultations can be held in person or by phone. Hourly sessions can be booked by email or phone, and are strictly confidential.

Workshops
Workshops are run over two days, with a two-week interval in which to practise using the skills at home, or over four weekly half-days. Each stage of the course is supported with a numbered skill sheet or worksheet, designed to be simple and easy to use as prompts and reminders at home. The workshop is structured in clear stages and step-by-step building of skills. Presentation and discussion of a basic principle is followed by an exploration of a corresponding language skill. There is no role play, but participants are encouraged to try out new ways of saying things, based on real situations they experience at home with their children. The workshop is designed to be a non-judgemental, supportive and fun way to gain new understanding and skills
  *simple presentations
  *work from real-life scenarios
*practice as a group - as much or as
